  • Participants will identify ways to mitigate the impact of fuzzy trace theory on witness memory.

Description:

This presentation is an overview of fuzzy trace theory and its principles, as well as the way it impacts memory in forensic contexts. Fuzzy trace theory is a theory of cognition and memory and how it is stored in the brain and how the brain works to recall information. This presentation has been designed for professionals working with memory in forensic settings such as eyewitness memory, interviews, and lineups. This presentation will include updated research related to fuzzy trace theory as well as ways to mitigate its impact on memory recall. 


Presenter Biography:

Elizabeth A. Quinby, M.A., LPCC, is a doctoral research assistant at Texas State University, with research interests in interrogation, false confessions, and witness memory. She is also Positive Supports Professional for Integrity Living Options, Inc. in Minneapolis, Minnesota, working with individuals diagnosed with SPMI helping them to remain in the community. Elizabeth works with the AIAFS as a lead event coordinator for continuing education opportunities, and as a contributor to their membership publications, Forensic Mental Health Insider and Forensic Mental Health Practitioner on various topics related to memory.
